An under-the-radar big name that entered the transfer portal following the college football regular season was Oklahoma State QB Spencer Sanders. Sanders Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year in 2019 and was a first team All-Big 12 selection this past year. He offers teams an experienced dual-threat option and could step in and elevate a lot of programs offenses.
WHERE I WANT: Arizona State Sun Devils
The trendy answer here would be Tennessee, which I have down in the realistic option. With Hendon Hooker heading to the NFL, Sanders would be the perfect piece to replace him with. I on the other hand, would rather see him go down to Tempe. Arizona State hired Oregon OC Kenny Dillingham to replace Herm Edwards, and this is the reason I lean the Sun Devils over the Volunteers. The work Dillingham put in with transfer Bo Nix this past year, transforming him from SEC disappointment to someone whose name was being thrown around with the Heisman trophy was impressive. Sanders profile as a player reminds me a lot of Nix, and I think he would step into Dillingham's offense seamlessly.
REALISTIC OPTIONS: Florida Gators, Tennessee Volunteers
Florida had a disapointing season at the quarterback position, with Anthony Richardson peaking really in week one with a win over Utah. Richardson plans to enter the NFL Draft leaving a void at the position for the Gators. The same can be said for Tennessee with Hendon Hooker also heading to the draft. While Tennessee is the more intriguing option for Sanders as they possess the better offense, he would most likely have to battle in the spring and camp with Joe Milton. Florida, and many other schools offer him an instant chance to start.
SLEEPER TEAM: West Virginia Mountaineers (because I can't say NONE)
This one is definitely a long shot, as the three schools listed above are the three favorites and I do not see Sanders going anywhere else. However, if he were to go anywhere else I think West Virginia is an intriguing option. J.T. Daniels just announced he is entering the portal, leaving a spot open in Morgantown, and Sanders is someone who could come in and excel in Graham Harrell's offense.
