At this point last season, media heads were discussing whether the tandem of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum could play together. Trade was being discussed to split them up. Flash forward and the Celtics are the best team in the NBA by a wide margin, Jayson Tatum is the frontrunner for the MVP, and Jaylen Brown could be argued to be a first-team All-NBA player.
After losing in the finals last year to the Golden State Warriors, the Celtics entered the season as one of the favorites to win the championship this year. Then the scandal happened with Ime Udoka forming a cloud over the team. If the whole offseason saga has affected the guys we will never know, especially with how the team is playing on the court. Under new coach Joe Mazzulla, the team boasts the best offense in the NBA while also playing amazing defense. The addition of Malcolm Brogdon has solidified the bench unit, and Blake Griffin seems to be having a resurgence. Sam Hauser is the best 3-point shooter in basketball. Derrick White has revamped his shot, and Marcus Smart continues to do Marcus Smart things. This is all on top of Jaylen and Jayson continuing to be the greatest duo in the NBA.
All this has been happening with Robert Williams III having played in zero total games. His return to the court is getting closer and closer which is a scary sight for the rest of the NBA. Instead of rushing him back, they will have the ability to ease him back into regular playing time. By inserting Time Lord into the already best offense in basketball, the real question is how high can the offense get. He also adds a rim protection threat that the team doesn't have right now. If he returns to his former self, the already scary Celtics team gets even scarier.
