The Jets Now Have A Backup QB Problem

Despite not being the starter anymore, Zach Wilson impacted the Jets on the field again this week. Mike White is now the quarterback and has impressed in his few starts since replacing the former #2 overall pick. Sunday against Buffalo, in the lightly falling snow, White was getting hit on what seemed like every dropback. This caused him to come out of the game multiple times to be evaluated. Head coach Robert Salah would turn to veteran Joe Flacco. Joe looked lost out there, losing a fumble, and completing one pass for a gain of one singular yard. I understand the Zach Wilson situation, and that he will likely be on a different NFL team come Week 1 next year, but if winning is what the team is concerned with Joe Flacco is not the option.

I mean no disrespect to Joe Flacco when I say this, but he gives me the vibes that he is just out there cashing a check. His love for the game is too strong for him to retire, but he does not want to have to do any of the in-game things like getting hit. Being able to stand on the sideline, and mentor the young QBs is enough for him. Seeing him in-game action, in the snow against this Buffalo defense showed this.

Zach Wilson's chance has soared, but he has to be a better option than Joe Flacco. By keeping him on the sideline, not even dressed for these past few games, the message has been received. Going forward, having him dress and then not play is also gut-wrenching, while also giving the Jets the chance to move the football if White were to go down.
