If you base your entire year off of sports, like myself and many others, you know that it is a revolving door of events happening. Going through the calendar, it may be hard to decide what the best month for sports is. After dropping a few, like July and August, which only have baseball, and November, which only has regular season football. Then comes some hard decisions, like dropping January, February, and September, months that feature the playoffs in both football and baseball. That leaves us with six months. March, April, May, June, October, and December. The decisions get more challenging. March has the NCAA tournament, and the ending of the NBA and NHL regular seasons. April features the Final Four and the beginning of the playoffs in basketball and hockey, as well as the Masters. June has the NBA Finals and Stanley Cup Finals, while baseball is fully in swing. October features regular season football in both college and the NFL, and the baseball playoffs and World Series. All of these put up a good fight, but in my eyes ultimately fall short. That leaves it to be between May and December. Here is the tale of the tape.
May: December:
- NBA playoffs - concussion of NFL regular season
- Stanley Cup Playoffs - College Football championships and bowl games
- MLB regular season - NBA regular season
- PGA Championship - college basketball regular season
- The Kentucky Derby - NHL regular season
- Indianapolis 500 - World Cup*
*this has been a special entry due to the fact that it was played later this year than normal.
It all comes down to what sports one enjoys more, and if one values championships/playoffs more. Those are obviously bigger games, but there are fewer of them going on. It's quality over quantity. For me, it is a coin flip. They are a perfect balance, equally apart in the year offering different games. Trying to keep my bias out of it (my birthday is in May, elevating the month a bit), I think that December may take the cake for me, but it was a difficult decision. It is the sheer quantity of big-name sports, happening nearly every day which does it. Come talk to me in six months, and my answer will probably be different. I am the prisoner of the moment, what can I say.
